The Writings of Numbers

Some parts of a story must be told, even if they do not seem that interesting to read.  Numbers is not the most popular book in the Bible.  It is not the most read book in the Bible. Many even skip this book, never reading it once.  But why would God put a book in His Bible that is comprised of long lists?  Why would He want you to know this information?

Numbers is not a science textbook to be analyzed.  It is not a chronological book to be memorized.  Numbers is an account of the nation of Israel that is very important for the salvation of the world. 

Numbers gives historical reality to God’s plan.  It makes it real.  It lists real names. Real people. Real lives. Real events that all make up part of God’s plan. 

Because of the type of book, you don’t read Numbers the way you may read a prophet or the Psalms or a New Testament letter.  You can sit and read it without having to focus on each word.  You can get an overall sense of the message of God to His people. You can find His redemption plan at work.
