The Writings of Jude

This letter was written many decades after Jesus ascended to heaven. The church has developed. It has faced many challenges and many different types of people have entered the church. Many great and wonderful things have happened but as the years have gone by, there have been wrong teachings that have entered the church. 

Jude writes this letter to warn Christians about the seriousness of false teachings. The church is not exempt from evil people who lie and deceive. This is nothing new as Jude gives many examples from history of individuals who mislead God’s people. Who are these people and how can they be identified? That is why we read the book of Jude. They are godless people living immoral lives who deny Jesus as Lord and Savior. They reject authority. They complain. They are selfish. They love flattering people but for their own selfish gain. 

If there are evil people in the church, there are also good people. But who are these people? Jude also tells us of them. They believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to give salvation to the world. They pray in the Holy Spirit. They love unconditionally. They spread the good news every chance they get. Their lives display the fruit of the Spirit. They are merciful. Can you spot the differences? 

Jude encourages Christians to stand firm against false teachers and their false doctrines. The church can live victoriously against the enemy when it stands firm and develops a personal relationship with God. He becomes the great ‘I Am’ for the church. This gives access to his power, his wisdom, his guidance, his strength and his protection. Jude’s letter is not easy to read but it is important, protecting the church from false teachers.
